This 1890s Victorian trade card was issued by J. P. Coats to promote its cotton thread products during the height of illustrated advertising ephemera.

J. P. Coats operated as a major international thread manufacturer, distributing vividly printed trade cards that blended humor, novelty imagery, and brand recognition. Late nineteenth-century advertising frequently used anthropomorphic animals and contemporary technological motifs such as the high-wheel bicycle to create memorable visual associations. These compact promotional cards were commonly inserted into packages or distributed by merchants, reinforcing brand identity in domestic settings.

The front features a whimsical scene of greyhound dogs riding penny farthing bicycles in procession, rendered in detailed chromolithography. A spool of J. P. Coats thread marked 50 appears prominently in the lower corner, while the reverse carries decorative typography stating that J. P. Coats thread is used by all. The card measures approximately 2.5 x 4 inches and reflects the playful graphic style characteristic of Coats advertising pieces.
