This 1960s chrome postcard of the Monterrey Motel in Surfside Beach, South Carolina reflects the postwar boom in Atlantic coast vacation travel and the rise of colorful, amenity-focused seaside motor lodges.

Surfside Beach developed as a family-oriented extension of the Grand Strand, offering direct ocean access and modern roadside accommodations during the mid-century tourism expansion. Chrome postcards, printed on glossy stock with high-saturation color, became the dominant promotional format of the period, often featuring multi-view layouts that combined exterior, beach, and interior scenes into a single advertising composition.

The card presents four views: beachgoers along the shoreline with rolling Atlantic surf; a roadside perspective of the multi-story motel with parked period automobiles; an elevated view showing the property’s beachfront setting; and a guest room interior with bright bedspread, green carpet, sliding glass door, and balcony overlooking the ocean. The reverse is unposted and typical of 1960s chrome production.
