This photograph was taken in October 1964 and documents multiple St. Louis streetcars gathered near the Keating Car House facility during the final decade of the city’s street railway operations.

By the mid-1960s, St. Louis was steadily reducing its once-extensive electric streetcar network, replacing many lines with motor buses. Keating Car House served as one of the system’s operational and storage points, where cars were maintained, staged, or retired as route conversions accelerated. The image shows both streamlined PCC-type equipment and earlier streetcar designs, illustrating the transitional mix typical of the period.

The composition captures several cars positioned on parallel yard tracks under overhead trolley wire, with fleet number 1776 visible on one car at right and the printed date “OCT 64” along the lower border. The scalloped edge indicates a mid-century photo print format.
