This real photo postcard was produced during the 1940s and shows the winding roadway approach to the Old Spanish Lighthouse at the end of Point Loma in San Diego, California.

Point Loma occupies one of the most historically significant coastal headlands in California, associated with early Spanish exploration, maritime navigation, military development, and panoramic Pacific Ocean views. The Old Point Loma Lighthouse, first illuminated in 1855, became an enduring Southern California landmark after being retired from active service and preserved as a historic site within the coastal reserve overlooking San Diego Bay and the Pacific shoreline. Mid-century photographic postcards frequently emphasized the dramatic roadway curves and exposed coastal terrain leading toward the lighthouse complex.

The image captures the broad paved approach road sweeping across the bluff with low coastal vegetation, utility poles, and ocean horizon visible beside the elevated lighthouse structure in the distance. Strong compositional lines created by the curving roadway guide the scene toward the historic beacon while documenting the relatively undeveloped landscape of Point Loma before later suburban expansion and heavier tourism infrastructure transformed much of the surrounding coastline.
