This 1950s real-photo postcard documents the Tyrannosaurus rex statue at Dinosaur Park in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Dinosaur Park was developed as a roadside attraction overlooking the city, combining large-scale concrete figures with open prairie views to create a visible landmark along regional travel routes. Mid-century attractions of this type blended educational themes with sculptural display, presenting prehistoric animals as outdoor monuments positioned against natural terrain and sky rather than inside museum interiors.

The image shows a concrete Tyrannosaurus rex figure mounted on a low stone base, posed on a sloped hillside with clouds and open landscape behind it. A caption at the base of the statue reads “Tyrannosaurus Rex” and “Dinosaur Park, Rapid City, S.D.,” identifying both the subject and location. The photograph uses strong light and shadow to define the sculpture’s contours, with the tail extending along the ground and the head turned slightly to the side. The unposted back follows a divided “Post Card” format consistent with real-photo cards of the period.
