This 1962 postcard documents downtown Black River Falls, Wisconsin, with a seasonal Welcome Hunters banner stretched across the main commercial street.

Mid-century small-town Wisconsin relied heavily on fall hunting season, which brought an influx of visitors supporting hotels, cafés, taverns, and retail storefronts. Community banners and civic greetings were common visual markers of that seasonal economy, reinforcing the town’s identity as a gateway to northern forests and outdoor recreation.

The scene presents a straight view down the business district lined with brick storefronts and mid-century automobiles parked along both curbs. The Freeman Hotel sign is visible at left, while the red Welcome Hunters banner spans the street above the traffic lane. A handwritten message and 1962 postmark appear on the reverse, confirming its mailed status and anchoring the card firmly in its period.
