This RPPC postcard is postmarked 1908 and features a small oval portrait photograph connected to Yorkville, California, accompanied by a lengthy handwritten message describing a local fishing outing.
Yorkville is a small settlement in Mendocino County along the historic route that connected inland valleys with the northern California coast. In the early twentieth century the area was a rural agricultural community surrounded by creeks, oak hills, and seasonal fishing spots that frequently appear in personal photographs and correspondence from the period. Real photo postcards were commonly used to share such informal snapshots, combining personal photography with written messages that documented everyday experiences.
The card presents a vignette-style oval photograph showing two figures outdoors beside a rough wooden fence and hillside landscape. The back of the postcard carries a clear 1908 postmark and an extended handwritten note describing a fishing trip with cousins in which no fish were caught, after which the group turned to flower gathering instead. The long message functions almost like a brief diary entry and provides an unusually personal narrative preserved on the card.
