Dating to the 1940s, this real photo postcard presents the Presbyterian Church in Merced, California, during the city’s mid-century period of civic and residential growth in the San Joaquin Valley.

Merced developed as an agricultural and transportation hub in California’s Central Valley, and its religious architecture reflected both regional identity and broader architectural trends. Churches constructed or remodeled in the early twentieth century frequently incorporated elements of Spanish Revival and Mission-inspired design, blending stucco surfaces, arched openings, and bell towers into forms suited to the California climate.
