This real photo postcard dates to the 1910s and presents a view of Black Butte in California, identified in the handwritten caption on the reverse.

Black Butte has long served as a recognizable volcanic landmark in Northern California, rising prominently above surrounding forest and waterways. Early twentieth-century real photo postcards frequently documented scenic terrain with an emphasis on natural topography, timber stands, and reflective water surfaces. Such landscape studies were popular among travelers and regional collectors, offering detailed photographic views of distinctive geographic features.

The composition centers on the conical mountain form in the background, with tall pine trees lining the near shoreline and their reflections mirrored in the still water. A narrow sandy bank arcs along the right foreground, creating depth and framing the mountain mass behind it. The reverse shows a divided back consistent with the period and no postal markings, confirming unposted condition.
