Southold Long Island New York Pines Forest 1908 Postcard Posted Divided Back

Posted in 1908, this Southold, Long Island postcard shows a wooded path through the pine groves identified on the card as The Pines.

Southold formed one of the earliest English settlements on Long Island’s North Fork and remained a quiet agricultural and maritime community into the early twentieth century. The area’s natural landscape, including pine groves and wooded stretches near the shoreline, became popular subjects for postcards distributed to visitors and summer residents traveling east from New York City. Scenes of forest paths and simple cottages conveyed the rural character that distinguished the North Fork from the more developed resort areas of Long Island.
