Issued in the 1950s, this chrome postcard depicts the iconic Wo Fat Restaurant in Honolulu, a landmark of Chinese-American cuisine and architectural presence in the city’s historic downtown district.

Founded in the late nineteenth century and later rebuilt in a distinctive multi-story pagoda-inspired form, Wo Fat became one of the most recognizable dining establishments in Hawaii. Mid-century chrome postcards emphasized saturated color and sharp contrast, highlighting the green-tiled rooflines, open-air balconies, and decorative latticework that defined the building’s visual identity.

The image shows the corner elevation with tiered rooflines and ornamental detailing above the street, period automobiles parked below, and the restaurant’s upper gallery wrapping the structure. The composition captures the building’s vibrant facade and its integration into Honolulu’s mid-century urban streetscape.
