This 1913 posted postcard from San Francisco, California depicts a New Years celebration at the famed Poodle Dog Cafe on Bush Street.

Established in the nineteenth century and rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake, the Poodle Dog Cafe became one of San Francisco’s most celebrated French restaurants, known for elaborate interiors and festive holiday gatherings. Dining rooms of this scale reflected the city’s cosmopolitan aspirations during the early twentieth century, where formal attire, multi-course meals, and orchestrated décor marked major social occasions. New Years Eve events in particular drew large crowds eager to welcome the coming year in grand style.

The colorized interior view shows long banquet tables filled with diners in evening dress, servers moving through the room, and decorative greenery and streamers suspended from the ceiling. The lower caption reads New Years at the Poodle Dog Cafe, 48 Bush St., San Francisco, Cal. The reverse bears a 1913 postmark and handwritten message, confirming period use and adding postal history interest.
