This postcard is postmarked 1905 and features a hand-colored creek landscape near Los Gatos, California.

Los Gatos developed in the late nineteenth century as a gateway community to the Santa Cruz Mountains, with creeks and wooded canyons forming a defining part of its landscape. Early postcard publishers frequently highlighted rushing streams, redwood-lined banks, and scenic watercourses to promote the area’s natural appeal. By the early twentieth century, such views circulated widely among travelers and residents documenting Northern California’s mountain foothill environment.

The image presents a fast-moving creek flowing between tree-lined banks, framed within an oval vignette against a white border. Hand-applied color emphasizes the green water and reddish tree trunks, a common stylistic treatment of the era. The reverse shows a 1905 postmark and written message, confirming mailed use during the divided-back period.
