This postcard dating to the pre-1907 era depicts Angels Flight, the short but iconic incline railway connecting Hill Street with the elevated residential district of Bunker Hill in Los Angeles, California.

Angels Flight opened in 1901 and quickly became one of the most recognizable transportation features in early Los Angeles. The funicular railway allowed residents and visitors to travel between the commercial district below and the steep hillside neighborhood above without climbing the long staircase that ran alongside the tracks. Bunker Hill at the time was lined with Victorian homes, boarding houses, and hotels that overlooked the growing downtown city.
