This early 1900s Eureka, California postcard features the Hotel Vance, presented in an undivided back private mailing card format consistent with pre-1907 issue.

Eureka developed as a commercial and lumber port hub along Humboldt Bay, with multi-story brick hotels serving traveling merchants, timber interests, and coastal passengers. Prominent corner buildings with retail storefronts at street level reflected mixed-use downtown development typical of the period. The image presents a strong architectural perspective emphasizing the hotel’s corner entrance and symmetrical window bays.

The card shows a substantial four-story brick structure with projecting corner bay, arched lower-level windows, and cornice detailing along the roofline. Storefront glazing occupies the ground floor, with pedestrians visible at the corner and a horse-drawn carriage positioned along the street. The right margin carries the printed identification Hotel Vance, Eureka, Cal., and the reverse is an undivided back private mailing card layout, with address space only and no message divider.

The item shown in the listing is the exact item the collector will receive. We have tens of thousands of items to choose from. Shipping will always be combined or refunded to save you as much money as possible. Please contact us with any questions, or visit our store page for specifics.
