Dated to the 1940s, this Avalon, California linen postcard features the interior of Happy’s Club Catalina Bar during the island’s mid-century resort heyday.

Avalon on Santa Catalina Island emerged as one of Southern California’s most popular coastal escapes in the early twentieth century, drawing tourists by steamship for dancing, nightlife, and ocean air. Entertainment venues like Happy’s Club formed part of the island’s social core, offering cocktail lounges and dance floors that blended Art Deco and Mediterranean revival influences typical of the period.

The image presents a long red-topped bar set beneath decorative arched columns with ornate capitals, flanked by a row of blue upholstered stools. Overhead pendant lights and a visible “Dancing” sign in the background reinforce the club atmosphere. The linen printing process enhances the warm yellows and saturated reds common to 1940s postcards, giving the scene its characteristic textured color finish. Marked unposted.
