This 1911 real photo postcard features the Stone Fort castle tower in Pocahontas, Iowa, presented within a distinctive clover-shaped photographic frame.

Across the Midwest in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, ornamental stone towers and park structures were often constructed as civic landmarks, scenic overlooks, or commemorative features. Such romanticized “castle” designs reflected broader architectural trends that favored medieval revival elements in small-town public works and recreational landscapes. Real photo postcards documenting these sites preserve not only the structure itself but also the community pride attached to these unusual landmarks.

The sepia image shows a tall stone tower rising near the water’s edge, surrounded by trees and a small gathering area. The photograph is inset within a stylized club-shaped border, with additional decorative framing printed around it. Handwritten script across the lower portion reads Greetings from Pocahontas, Ia., and the card is postmarked 1911, confirming early divided-back era usage.
