Lodi California 1913 Lodi Soda Works Ice Depot Coal Billhead 8 x 5.5

On January 1, 1913, Lodi Soda Works and Ice Depot issued this statement to document an outstanding account for ice, coal, and carbonated water services in Lodi, California.

Before mechanical refrigeration became universal, ice plants and soda works formed a critical part of urban infrastructure, supplying households and businesses with ice for food preservation and carbonated beverages for everyday consumption. Combined operations like this one also handled coal delivery, linking refreshment, refrigeration, and fuel into a single commercial network that supported domestic kitchens, shops, and restaurants.

This billhead is printed for Lodi Soda Works and Ice Depot, incorporated, advertising hay, ice, and coal alongside mineral water and carbonated sodas at a South Sacramento Street address. The handwritten notation records a balance due as of January 1, preserving evidence of routine credit arrangements between local suppliers and customers. The tall ledger format and ruled columns reflect practical office use rather than decorative stationery.
