This real photo postcard was produced during the 1910s and documents Shafter's Bridge at Lagunitas in Marin County, California, with a small group posed along the wooden span.

Western Marin County developed around creek crossings, ranch routes, and narrow rural roads linking small communities through the San Geronimo Valley. Lagunitas remained closely associated with timber, ranching, and early recreational travel during this period, and bridges like the one shown here formed an essential part of local transportation infrastructure. The composition emphasizes the isolated wooded setting, steep hillsides, and compact steel truss construction characteristic of small California rural bridges of the era.

The image shows several men and women gathered along the side of the bridge while additional figures appear farther up the road beyond the crossing. Hand-lettered identification reading Bridge, Shafter's Lagunitas Cal appears prominently in the lower corner, reinforcing the documentary nature of the photograph. The RPPC features an AZO stamp box on the reverse consistent with early twentieth-century production and displays strong historical detail in the bridge decking, railing structure, utility poles, and surrounding vegetation.
