King Bros Circus 1955 Photo Camel Winter Quarters Building 3.5 x 3.5

This photograph was taken in February 1955 and shows a camel tethered beside a large winter quarters building used by the King Bros Circus.

Camels were a common presence in mid-twentieth-century American circuses, appearing in parade groups, desert-themed spectacles, and menagerie displays. During the winter and early preparation period animals were typically kept in outdoor tether areas near permanent circus buildings where they could be exercised and fed before the touring season began.

The image features a camel standing in profile with a rope halter and tether extending toward a ground stake. The animal stands beside a substantial brick building with tall arched windows and large masonry columns supporting a projecting roof. Part of a mid-century automobile is visible near the building entrance, while straw scattered across the ground marks the animal line area.
