King Bros Circus 1955 Photo Buffalo Camel Winter Quarters 3.5 x 3.5

This photograph was taken in February 1955 and shows a buffalo resting on straw beside a camel near a large domed circus arena building used by the King Bros Circus.

Traveling circuses commonly maintained mixed animal groups that included elephants, camels, ponies, and occasionally North American species such as buffalo as part of their menagerie displays. During the winter and early preparation period animals were often tethered outdoors near arena structures where they could be exercised, fed, and conditioned prior to the touring season.

The image features a buffalo resting on straw in the foreground with a rope tether extending toward a stake just outside the frame. A camel stands behind the buffalo while additional animals appear faintly across the lot. The curved exterior wall and columned entrance of the same domed brick circus building seen in related photographs frames the left side of the scene, while canvas tenting is visible in the distance beyond the animals. The square scalloped-edge snapshot includes the FEB 55 date marking along the border and matches the format of the other King Bros Circus photographs from this documented series.
