This December 26, 1895 letterhead from E C Stearns Company documents business correspondence from the firm’s Buffalo branch during the height of the American bicycle boom.

E C Stearns & Company emerged as one of the prominent late nineteenth-century bicycle manufacturers, operating major facilities in Syracuse with branch representation in Buffalo. The engraved letterhead features a detailed factory illustration with smoking stacks, corporate officers’ names, and the Buffalo address at 571 Main Street, presenting a structured industrial identity tied to high-grade Stearns Bicycles. Typography combines ornate script for the company name with formal serif text, reflecting period design conventions in commercial stationery.

The typed letter is addressed to The H Hill Brass Co. of East Hampton, Connecticut, requesting discount and price lists for bells and related sundries, directly situating the document within supply-chain relationships of the cycling trade. Purple typewriting remains strong and legible across the page, and the manager’s signature appears in ink at the conclusion. Fold lines, minor edge wear, and light age toning are consistent with original business use, and the sheet measures approximately 8.5 x 7 inches.
