This photograph dates to 1956 and documents a circus wagon used in the Mickey Mouse Club Circus attraction at Disneyland during the park’s earliest operational period.
Located in the Fantasyland area, the Mickey Mouse Club Circus was introduced at Disneyland in late 1955 as a live performance attraction tied to the popularity of the television program The Mickey Mouse Club. The circus featured professional performers, animals, and decorative wagons modeled after traditional American circus equipment (or purchased second-hand from small regional circuses). Occupying the site of the current Matterhorn ride, the MMCC operated only briefly during the mid-1950s before the space was later redeveloped, making surviving visual documentation from this phase of the park relatively scarce.
The image features a decorative circus wagon with large spoked wheels and painted panel sides bearing a Mickey Mouse Club Circus sign. The note on the reverse confirms it was the former baggage wagon from the Al G. Barnes Circus. In the distance, another wagon displays the name O J Keller as part of its painted decoration. Striped canvas structures and circus equipment appear around the wagons, documenting a working view of the Mickey Mouse Club Circus grounds during the attraction’s early operating period, possibly during the final stages of construction or setup.
