In July 1972, Louisville photographer Bill Rhodes documented a traveling circus street parade in Lawrence, Michigan, capturing an ornate band wagon pulled by a four-horse team during the promotional procession.

Circus street parades remained a visible part of American traveling show culture into the early 1970s, especially among smaller regional circuses that continued the long-standing practice of announcing their arrival through public processions. Decorated wagons, animal teams, and musicians moving through town streets served both as advertising and as a display of the traditional pageantry associated with the circus.

The photograph shows a richly ornamented circus band wagon with elaborate carved panels and decorative scrollwork mounted on a high wooden chassis. A driver sits on the elevated seat guiding the four-horse team using long reins while the wagon moves along the parade route. The background suggests the edge of the circus grounds, with fencing and equipment visible beyond the roadway. The reverse carries the stamp Original Photo by Bill Rhodes of Louisville, Kentucky, dated Jul 72, along with a reproduction prohibition notice, and includes a handwritten note identifying Charles Sill of Lawrence, Michigan.
